Bookbinding?
People take books so much for granted that few of them stop to consider where they come from.

Most of the books you see in a bookshop come from big factories. That's not our line. We are Craft Bookbinders.
Our limit is, maybe, two hundred copies.

Many people first come across bookbinders when they want to have their college thesis or dissertation bound. We do a lot of these.

Others may notice the impressive rows of bound law books behind politicians' heads in TV shots and wonder where they come from. We do those too.

Some families have a few old leather-bound books which used to belong to great grandfather. They are the products of the craft binders of a bygone age. The techniques craft binders use today are not very different and a seventeenth century binder would soon find his way round a modern craft bindery. We do a lot of restoration work on old books like those in the picture below.

A well-chosen binding, adding a personal touch to a cherished book, or greater strength to one frequently used, provides the pleasure and satisfaction of handling an object which is perfectly suited to its purpose.

Teasdale Brown was founded by Geoff Brown in 1976. Kate Hore joined the firm in 1996. Geoff has now retired and the name of the business has been changed to Teasdale Bookbinders. Kate Hore now runs the business.

Anyone with an interest in bookbinding is welcome to join the Society of Bookbinders (there is a link to their website below). There are several regional groups which hold regular meetings with demonstrations, visits and exhibitions. Come along and join us!
